My first visit to Mt. Rainier National Park was four years ago in late July. It was clear that I had arrived a few weeks too early for peak wildflower display. Some avalanche lilies were peeking out from snow covered trails, but that was about it. This summer, I vowed to return and time my visit a few weeks later in mid-August. The past experience about timing paid off, as you'll see by the beautiful, showy wildflower displays in these images from the southern slope below Mt. Rainier.
