Reeds, Lake Siskiyou

Reeds, Lake Siskiyou

On a camping stopover in Mt. Shasta, California in June 2011, I was intending to spend the short time I had allotted to photographing the mountain from Lake Siskiyou. However, down at lakeshore, I spotted the reeds in the water and got sucked in to directing my camera on a study of these reeds as subjects, abstract and otherwise, at different times of day under changing light. As you can see by this image and the several images that accompany it, quality of light and perspective made for some interesting and varied effects of this single subject. In this particular image, I focused on the boundary between the sunset light reflecting off the lake's surface and the shaded portion of the lake in the reeds near the shoreline. In processing this image, I added a bit of saturation to both the warm and cool hues, and I darkened the warm tones with a Curve adjustment.
