Positano at dawn. Positano was one of my favorite places to photograph during our five-week tour of the country. The port village, built on the steep cliffs leading down to the cobalt blue water of Tyrrhenian Sea, once prospered in trade routes and often came under attack by pirates in medieval times. You have to be in somewhat good shape to live here, sort of like Machu Picchu in Peru, because everywhere you go are steps that take you either uphill or downhill. Because of its steep jagged coastline, there viewpoints for getting images of Positano are few. To overcome that obstacle, I visited the same locations in different light conditions.
