It is very close to Cape Alguhas, the southernmost tip of the African continent where the Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean merge. Fishing is a mainstay of the Arniston economy. The area is known for its rugged coastline and beautiful beaches, but swimming is not advisable due to rip tides and the presence of Great White sharks.
