Courtyard of the Cusco cathedral, which was built on top of the foundation of an Inca temple. The Spanish conquistadors and Catholic Church tried to destroy as much of the culture of the indigenous population as possible in their thirst to dominate and colonize South America. Although much of the South American population outwardly consider themselves Catholics, privately many still practice and honor the old religious ways of the Inca and Quechuan.
