The arch just offshore at Pfeiffer Beach along the Big Sur coastline draws photographers and other nature lovers each year in December and January, which is when the alignment of the setting sun on the horizon results in a shaft of light coming through the keyhole arch in the giant granite formation. This was taken just before the sun was about to set. Although it looks empty, there was a throng of people watching and delighting in the display of light through the arch. I've visited this place many times, and you never can be certain if the sunlight will be obscured by a marine inversion layer on the horizon.
