Columbia River Gorge, Punch Bowl Falls_2164 copy

Columbia River Gorge, Punch Bowl Falls_2164 copy

Punch Bowl Falls appears frequently on calendars and postcards. It lies in a picturesque canyon on Eagle Creek in the Columbia River Gorge. The trail can be a bit hairy for those with fear of hikes. At times the trail turns into a narrow ledge along the steep basalt cliffs. Fortunately, they've bolted a cable into the cliff side so you can gain a handhold of security as you venture passed these steep narrow ledges. For the best view of Punch Bowl, bring waders to get into the creek. On this day, I hiked the 2.5 miles to Punch Bowl in the rain. With vigorous lens wipe downs, I managed to salvage a very few and precious images of Punch Bowl. The rest were ruined by rain drops and smears.
