Manzanar_1546_1547_B&W
Mt. Williamson from Manzanar in the Eastern Sierra of California. Manzanar was the location of an American internment camp of Japanese-American citizens during World War II, a dark chapter in America's history. Celebrated photographer Ansel Adams spent time at Manzanar photographing the landscape and documenting life of the internees at the camp.
This image was taken in mid-day under harsh sunlight. At the time I took the shot, I imagined it as a monochrome image full of nice contrast between the foreground boulders reflecting bright light and the dark Sierra Nevada in the background.
